Appetizer Help Needed

Have some friends coming over next week. One of the guests wants to make an appetizer to bring and asked me to suggest something to her. Our menu is pulled pork, ribs, coleslaw, potato salad, and baked beans.

She suggested something light with that heavy of a meal.

Any thoughts? Please note she is a good cook, but not a person that gravitates towards using a grill/smoker/etc.
 
Some seafood might serve quite nicely, maybe a nice ceviche or shrimp cocktail. Maybe hit the shrimp with some of your pork sauce and grill instead of just boiling. Alternatively and considering it's still the end of summer you could serve up a fresh bruschetta, or a refreshing gazpacho. Those are my thoughts, a little ways away from the main course but maybe they'll help ya out or spark some insight. G'luck with the get together, enjoy!
