I'll be judging BBQ at Grills N Grills, a KCBS sanctioned barbecue contest in Penn Valley, CA on Saturday, August 27, 2016. This event is hosted by the United Way of Placer County at Western Gateway Park in Penn Valley, just minutes from the historic gold towns of Grass Valley and Nevada City.

Besides the BBQ contest, there will be a car & motorcycle show, children's area, beer & wine, food vendors, disc golf, music, raffle and much more!

Should be a fun day! For more details, visit http://grillsngrilles.com/

Here are some photos from the Grills N Grilles BBQ Competition in Penn Valley, CA.

It's was a neat event, great weather in the low 80's, 28 professional teams in the KCBS competition and a smaller number of local backyard teams competing in pork ribs only. Nice venue at Western Gateway Park with lots of green grass, a cool car show, disc golf tournament, and an air-conditioned room with indoor plumbing for the judges...it doesn't get any better than that! ;)

And all for a good cause, with proceeds going to the United Way of Nevada County.

Congrats to Grand Champion Smokey Luv BBQ and Reserve Champion The B Team!

I donated an Igloo Party Bucket filled with Weber grilling accessories to the United Way raffle...it seemed to be the most popular raffle item as far as I could tell!

Looks like a great event Chris. Those cars brought back a lot of memories. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Great looking place and cars.
But how did you eat ??
Well, Kansas City BBQ Society likes to say, "What happens in the judging tent STAYS in the judging tent."

So when asked, "How was the barbecue?" a judge is supposed to reply, "I had some fabulous barbecue today!"

Judges are not allowed to socialize with teams on the day of turn-ins, so I can't stop by early Saturday morning and take photos of cooked meat, meat being sliced and arranged in turn-in boxes, etc. Judges are not allowed to take photos of the entries at the judging table. Judges can visit with teams on Friday night, but then you're getting photos of raw meat and smoke billowing out of pits.

I'm hoping to get a few meat photos from Ben Lobenstein, the event promoter, to share with you. :)
