Hello,

Just want to introduce myself. I am a new owner of Genesis 1000 LP. Found the grill on CL for $30 and now i'm restoring it. I am very excited to bring this bad boy back to life.

I cannot seem to figure out the year, based on the serial number. if anybody could help me out that would be appreciated.

Serial number on the user manual is: KL1-16527

Thanks

First, welcome to the forum. Check under the control panel for a serial number, also on the right side of the control panel.

If you could post a pictures of the grill that would also help.

To post pics, check out this LINK.

There is a lot of great info on the site about rehabbing these grills. Many of us have done it and we get many years of service from them. My 20 year old Genesis 1000 is now rehabed and we use it all the time. You will get a lot of satisfaction from your efforts. Good Luck.

Looking good Robert. I have a 1000LX I converted to a 2000LX and have owned it since new in 1999. These are great grills you will get a lot of great cooks from i.t

I have a redhead three burner with SN: KL1 6375, model number: 210000
I also see the year date of 1991 on the sticker. Is my grill a Genesis LX1000?

Just this month I rewrote the How To Determine The Age Of Weber Grills & Smokers article to include a lot more info and photos about gas grill age.

As best I can determine, prior to 1994 when Weber introduced the two-letter AUTHORIZED date code, none of the gas grill serial numbers contained date information. It may be that a date sticker was attached on some grills (BRUCE: I'd like to see a photo of the 1991 sticker you refer to on your grill). Starting around 1994, they started using the two-letter AUTHORIZED code on gas grills and the owner's manual.

The Genesis 1-5 had a serial number in this format: _#-999999 where _ was either L for liquid propane or N for natural gas, and # was the model:

1 is the Genesis 1
3 is the Genesis 2
7 is the Genesis 3
4 is the Genesis 4
5 is the Genesis 5

and -999999 was the serialized number.

My old Genesis 2 propane grill has a serial number L3-162105. L = propane, 3 = Genesis 2.

The smaller Genesis XX, XXI, and Jr. models added an S before the L or P and were either S_1-999999 or S_2-999999.

When the Genesis 1000-5000 came out, they added a K before the L or P and kept the same 1/3/7/4/5 model designation. So KL1-6375 and KL1-16527 are both Genesis 1000 LP grills. The Genesis 5500 (a built-in natural gas grill) used PMN instead of K as its designation for "Permanent Mount Natural Gas". The Spirit 500/700 used a P instead of a K.

It's a Genesis 1000. The 1000 has the wire bottom rack, the 1000 LX has a slatted bottom rack. You're missing the swing work table on the left side.

I'd like you to post a photo showing that 1991 date sticker and its location on the grill.

Here is the sticker. It was on the underside of the control panel. I can get you a full photo of the entire sticker, but the part shown is the only part with unique markings on it.

By the way, thanks for the link to that Genesis brochure and your posting of the Weber Serial number dating schemes. I imagine it took a long time and a lot of grills to compile all that information.

Chris: While there is a date code on my grill, I am thinking it is probably the "MODEL" year and not the year of MANUFACTURE. I sent the grill info to Weber and this is what I received back:

"John (Weber Grills)

Hello Bruce,

Based on the KL1 serial prefix, you have a Genesis 1000 LP model made in 1993.
It's model # 211001.
That model predates our serial number validation tool and the grill cannot be registered online."

I hope this helps your Grill ID database.

The date on that sticker is not related to the grill's model year or date of manufacture. ANS Z21 1991 is the year of the ANSI standard for gas-fired appliances under which the grill was designed.

The info from Weber is more definitive...that 1993 is more likely the model year of your grill, meaning it was built sometime between Nov. 1 1992 and Oct. 31 1993.
