Interesting heatermeter-like controller using Spark Core

The Spark core has now been replaced by the Photon, which is only $19. Seems like the heatermeter could be adapted on that platform possibly?

Not possible. There's only 7 Digital IOs on it and I'm not sure how many PWMs, compared with nearly twice as many on the ATmega. The main thing is that it is all set up to use their cloud service, which isn't a real-time streaming connection as far as I know. Because of the limited space on the device itself you can't do too much work there, and the cloud service is just a dumb database (i.e. you can't write code that runs on the cloud). You definitely could build a BBQ controller that you can control over the internet but you wouldn't get the capability of rich interaction and data storage like the current combination.
