A friend and I have had a long standing (maybe 20 years or more) argument over who makes the best tri tip. Eventually it was decided that we would invite some friends, arrange for judges, and make it official, once and for all. Because I have a weird sense of humor, I named the contest after myself...Stu Clary's Annual Tri Tip & Ribs Challenge! Well, we had so much fun that "once and for all" turned into an annual event, held the weekend after Memorial Day. Now, we have a waiting list because the venue (my in laws house) can only accommodate a maximum of twenty 2-person teams. Haha! We even have a Facebook page - in fact, I'll be mentioning this community there. Anyway, each team prepares at least two racks of baby backs and at least one tri tip. Contestants submit one bone of ribs and one slice of tri tip to each of the three judges. Everything else (including sides and desserts that we ask guests to provide) is shared like a giant buffet.
