Hi folks...thank you for your responses to my thread on "Competition Ammenities"...here...

Along the same thought is why you choose where to compete. If there are several choices from which to choose on what do you base your decision?

Again...I am compiling a list for event organizers that will be available to everyone to use.

Not only am I surveying this forum, but other forums as well...here are links to them if you'd like to see what other folks are saying...

I hope that some of you will ask these questions to your local BBQ associations as well so that we (the competitors and event organizers) can hope to make life a bit easier (and appreciated) for future competitions.

Thanks again!

Location, water, electric, and payout. Those are my top 4 things we look at before we enter any contest.
I cant lie and say that the money doesnt matter. It does for us. Dont get me wrong, I love the people, parties, but we do it for the bling and hope to do this for free.

Here are your top 5 reasons (from 4 BBQ forums) for choosing a competition...

1. Distance...how close it is to home.
2. Entry Fee...how much it costs to enter.
3. Reputation...family friendly, organizers take care of the teams.
4. Pay-Outs...prize money (comparable to entry fees).
5. Location...easy access, level sites, grass vs. asphalt.

Thanks!

Here's how I decided on the 14 I'm doing this year:

- Did I have a good time at it last year?
- Is it a qualifier for the Triple Crown or the Jack?
- Distance (although I break my own rules in 3 instances)
- If it's new, do any of the competitors know the organizers?
- Registration fees
