Hi all,

I just picked up my new WSM and am ready to test it out. However, some folks have indicated that I should "cure" it? For example, coat it with particular oil and burn it in so to speak.

Is this the case, and if so, what should I use for smoke/internal coating?

Welcome Pete!

No need to cure the pit. It has a porcelain finish on the inside so, no curing needed.

It may run a little hotter because of this, but after a few cooks, it will settle right in!

Have fun!

I sprayed the inside of my new WSM before the first use with aerosol cooking spray. Didn't have any problems with it running hot on the first couple of cooks.

This was Brinkmann's recommended "seasoning" method. It can do no harm, so if you are concerned about first use, maybe try it.
