Can gasket make WSM22 TOO air sealed?

Thanks so much for the info. I will look more into the dog bowl thing and see what I can find. Your blower and setup look more like those of the Flame Boss blower than what I have. It looks like you have a square connecting port rather than a round one like the Pit Viper so I'm not sure how...

Can gasket make WSM22 TOO air sealed?

I used a full chimney of lit KBB, put it in the WSM, dumped another chimney of unlit KBB on top of that, let it burn in open air for about 10 minutes until about half the unlit charcoal was engaged, and then assembled the WSM. The temp read about 345 when I assembled the WSM, fell to about 300...

Can gasket make WSM22 TOO air sealed?

I use the Pit Viper from BBQGuru.com. I believe it’s rated at 10 CFM. It’s the one that recommended for the WSM22 and should be enough to power it. Can you point me to some more info on the “dog bowl” method?

Can gasket make WSM22 TOO air sealed?

Well my hopes of my WSM holding hiring temps with a FireBoard + Pit Viper have failed to come to fruition. The FireBoard does a fantastic job of holding temperatures, but I can still only get my WSM22 up to about 285 degrees, even when it pushes the fan to full power. If I crack the access door...

The Real Competition Between Kansas City and Houston? Barbecue

That's an understatement. I've been to Houston 4 or 5 times in the last two years and have yet to find a decent BBQ joint. I'm heading back next week and have given up on finding anything. I'm going to exploit the decent TexMex place I found last fall.

Can gasket make WSM22 TOO air sealed?

Yes, the water pan was in the smoker (and wrapped in AL foil) but I didn't run any water in it.

New Weber pellet grills for 2020

I read on the interweb of a guy who saw it posted by a guy who has a friend who has a buddy whose brother works for Weber who saw it on Facebook. I think I'll wait for the hand-on reviews before taking that to the bank.

New Weber pellet grills for 2020

Thanks so much for your very well thought-out and presented response. I couldn't agree more with most everything you said. The couple things I would point out, though, are as follows: Yes, the Yoder is built like a tank, but I'm not really planning to transport it anywhere, so I perhaps don't...

New Weber pellet grills for 2020

I've been doing so much research to eventually get a pellet smoker over the last couple months. My choices are really down to the Yoder YS640 and the Rec Tec RT-700. I thought my heart was finally set on the RT-700 and then Weber has to go and do this. I'm not usually one to jump on first...

Can gasket make WSM22 TOO air sealed?

Ever since I installed the gasket on my WSM22 on the door and both ends of the center barrel, I feel I've had a lot of difficulty getting my smoker to run hot enough. Case in point was last week's Thanksgiving turkey. It was chilly during the morning so I lit a full chimney or KBB and got it...

May I brag just a little - first brisket

Thanks, all! It was really enjoyable to see the fruits of my labor turn out so well. Already ready to make another one. Next time, though, its for a whole bunch of people. Eek! I did not separate the point and flat. I left it all in tact during cooking and slicing.

May I brag just a little - first brisket

Hey all, After a couple pulled porks and a bunch of delicious wings, I decided to make the leap and try my first full brisket. (I did a flat a few weeks ago that turned out pretty decent, but not exactly stunning.) I went with the Franklin theory of minimalism - kosher salt, course black...

    Clay saucer in water bowl

I posted yesterday my first experience with my WSM 22 in another thread but don't want to hijack that in another direction so I'll start new. I've seen a lot of talk about using a terra cotta/clay saucer in place of water in the bowl. I've found this one that is available at my local Lowe's...

First try - What did I do wrong??

You guys are amazing! Thank you so much for all the wonderful advice so quickly! I noticed my original post got one word ****ed out, so first off, let me apologize for that. I doubt anyone here took great offense to it, but nonetheless, I certainly didn't mean to throw up a taboo word in my...

    Greetings from Central Illinois!

Hey folks, Paul here checking in from Savoy, Illinois, a small town attached to Champaign in east-central Illinois. I've been grilling on my 2004 Weber Genesis Silver B for 14 years now, but have just jumping into the world of charcoal smoking. My wife surprised me with a 22-in WSM for...

First try - What did I do wrong??

Hello everyone. Long time (relatively) listener, first time caller here... so to speak. Please bare with me just a bit as I recall my first smoking experience yesterday in all the gory details. I got my WSM 22 last week as a Father's Day gift and was excited all week to fire it up and make...
