    Latest Frankengrill.

These 1000 and parts are getting more and more scarce around me. I stop and grab any curb finds, CL give aways and sometimes will give a few bucks if there is potential or good parts that are hard to find. My personal scrap yard behind the shop has still got enough donors to put this latest...

    What’s It?

I inherited a couple of these from my father about 30 years ago. Always had one handy and just thought that I never see these anymore. Any of you fellow fossils recognize this great grilling tool?

7 years and time for a clean up

So the first Genny I did was back in 2014 I think. Every couple years I sand and redcoat the wood parts with a coat of marine varnish, but as I got to that this year I thought why not just pull it all down and freshen it up? After doing so many others, and using SS hardware, it’s just an...

    4yr status update

Well...it’s been 4 yrs since the restore of my daily cooker. A 1000 greenie. Quite possibly the best LP cooking device I’ve ever owned. So today I decided to roll it into the shop give it a good once over. Some observations to share. 4yrs ago the burners were replaced with A new Weber set...

    Emblem/Badge question

I really like the 'Red Grill' on some of the badge plates I see you guys doing. How are you painting the grill? I have a fairly steady hand, but still not sure if I could do it clean with a brush. The ones I see on here sure look good, I was just wondering how it was accomplished.

    Bruce, u da man

So in researching the thermoset table restore, I came across many posts, videos, recommendations etc. from specific specialty cleaners to sanding on and on. Had some pretty nasty looking tables, and all the simple green and steel wool didn’t seem to be working. But Bruce, suggests the most...

    Jammed casters

Shot in the dark here. The last 3 restore prospects I’ve obtained ( 2 Silver Bs and a Skyline) ALL have jammed casters on them. I must have been lucky until now as the others I’ve done (older 90s models) still roll freely. I know they are available and can be replaced, but wanted to check with...

    Thermo plastic table restore

Picked a Silver B this week and the tables have what looks like grease stains. I’ve tried degreaser and steel wool. Some barkeepers friend as well. Not doing the trick. This is the first one I’ve done with these tables. Any tips on getting these clean? I’m also having trouble getting the control...

    Parts source

I gota tell ya...started this hobby about 10 years ago I think. Parts for early Gennys were fairly easy to come by. Last one I did was about 4 years ago that needed a number of parts but they were plentiful. Wow doing this skyline now and they seem to be scarcer and a bit more costly. Many of...

    Painted hood

So I saw this Skyline on CL not too far from my place. Lady wanted $100. Fairly steep but Ive been looking for something for my Daughter in Law for a while. This looked like it had potential so I thought I’d at least take a look at it. Looked it over and it had the usual issues. Drip pan rails...

    Score!!!

CL find tonight. Can't tell if it's a Silver A or a Spirit 500. Mica green hood, stainless grates, stainless bars. Burners, grates, ignitor box and bars all in top condition. After disassembly only appears to need several plastic end caps for the frame. Got it for $20. A project for the weekend...

    Searing

I've heard it said that you cant achieve the proper sear without infa red sear stations, or special grates etc. but i have to say, my Genesis 1000 with the plain old porcelain coated steel grates, when set up in a 2 zone cook, can sear a heck of a steak. Better than any other gasser I've...

    Almost one year

just about one year on a CL find and restoration. Never had a better Gas grill, used 3-4 times a week and shows almost NO wear!! Other box store grills I've had would be ready for a [at least] new set of bars (or plates) by now. I'm a true believer :) Thanks so much to all the members here that...

    First year with the 1000

After the first year since obtaining and restoring a genesis 1000; Gotta say this has been a heck of a grill so far. One thing I have noticed though (and this has been ever since ive owned it) the front burner valve gets a bit stiff when the grill is heated up. The other two move smooth as silk...

    Summer of Genny

Restored my CL Genesis 1000 back at the beginning of the summer. I have to say, Ive been very impressed with this grill, and so glad i found this community to inspire me in this direction. Its been a great summer of grilling, while looking forward to many more. Thanks to all here for the...

    Old Genny Burners vs New

I noticed on my 1999 Genesis 1000, that on the original burners, the 'center' burner had the gas ports all along the sides, and the crossover tube was a bit differently mounted to the center burner. On the new burners the center tube has the ports all along the top. Dont have any temp data from...
