    Cast Iron vs. Grill Grates

Don't get me wrong, for dense food, steaks, chops etc a weight does help with the searing no matter what grate. If you used a weight on most seafood or veggies you'd just destroy the food.

    Cast Iron vs. Grill Grates

Catfish grille on the grates I often when eating less calories grill fish & shrimp as I'm not a big fan of "Boneless, Skinless, Tasteless chicken breasts." Catfish is easily obtained, stored frozen glazed in bags, & to me is preferable to Tilapia ( Boneless, Tasteless fish filets) It is more...

    Cast Iron vs. Grill Grates

Comparison cook for salmon. Thick farm raised salmon seasoned with McCormick salmon rub then coated with olive oil. Long preheat, cooked on high for 5 min on meat then 4 min skin side down. Minimal sticking, lost a tiny chunk of fish on grill grates. Good sear on both, no significant difference...

    Cast Iron vs. Grill Grates

Over the next few days I'm going to compare grill grates to the very heavy cast iron grates found on my Weber Genesis 1000 from 1999. Mainly concerned with ability to cook more fragile items such as seafood & vegetables. First cook squash & zucchini seasoned with olive oil & citrus blend. Grill...

    Rouse's

Rouses may be my favorite grocery chain! Going to NOLA to see the kids for Father's Day & took a look at the weekly ad. If the first page doesn't make you want to go grocery shopping nothing will!

"Porcelain coated" or "porcelain treated" cast iron grates?

On the newer models the grates are porceloin inpregnated. I prefer the cast iron over SS rods or grill grates ( have all 3)

    Side work table brackets/slat dimensions?

Slats are 15 5/16 long 1 5/8 wide 3/4 in thick Length & thickness are important, think if making my own I'd make wider with fewer boards.

    "New" Weber!

The durawood slats usually are in good condition, they are easy to sand & restain, In our area you might get another handle from a grill every year or 2! I'd make one that's solid & stain it to match. I was missing several slats for side shelves so cut down bamboo cutting boards to fit

And so it begins...Genesis Silver C "Spruce Up"

I know your planning on using grill grates but the heavy cast iron grates originally on the Weber are very good. With minimal care ( brush & wipe with oil after cooking) they work wonderfully. I prefer them over grill grates for grilling fish , seafood , delicate veggies. Because of heavy bars...
