I did this as well, the edges didn't even need to be sanded.

The pot. The lid of the Smokey Joe grills normally wont fit (or are too snug) over the pot. You can grind the lip down, cut the lip off, or crimp it with pliers so that the lid will fit on. The bottom of the pot is then cut out, or holes drilled, and then screws to hold a grate for food to sit...

I've never had issues with a whole spatchcocked chicken fitting, but I also don't hunt for the big birds when I shop.

Never thought about doing corn on the mini. Do you add any more wood chips for smoke, or just cook em up like they're being grilled?

I just cut the bottom out leaving tabs that I bent to hold my diffuser (old non stick skillet, handle removed). Works well for me.

Hey Nate, I use an old aluminum non-stick skillet wrapped in foil for my diffuser. I had an old scratched one scratched to hell that was given to me. I just cut the rivets holding on the handle, rather than drilling them out, so that if the foil leaks, the pan wont. I've found that's all I need...

I have the SJ Silver and just completed my mini build (going to modify it to a mini-za soon). On its maiden cook (Friday) I almost reached 400F. Had over 300 for a solid 1.5 hours then I backed it down so my dinner wouldn't cook too fast. After that I couldn't get the temp to go back up over...

He removes the handle, then rivets it to the bottom and cuts his hole through both lid and pot. It allows the pot to sit on the lid flush rather than inside the charcoal bowl. This gives you a little more height (as I understand) and allows you to stack multiple pots to increase your smoker...

Case, what size are the latches you used to keep the door closed? I have my pot on the way and was wanting to make it a mini-za for more flexibility. Those latches are the only thing I haven't been able to source out. These latches look very similar, but I'm not sure if using the same style...
