Replacement Parts for Genesis Silver

Hello!

I received a Genesis Silver in 2000 as a wedding gift, and it has been great. However, after my annual cleaning I discovered that the flavorizer bars were pretty well rusted and rotted. So, in addition to replacing those I think I might replace my grates as well. I have cast iron grates that seem to be in good shape except I really can't get them clean. They are somewhat rusted on the sides and flakes of it can easily be scraped off. However, I can't seem to scrape them enough to get rid of the junk.

If I also buy new grates is there a recommended way to "season" them prior to use, similar say to what you would do to season a cast iron frying pan?

Thank you!

Hi Mike,
I had the iron grates and they peel and flake.
I would consider the porcelin coated iron grates
HD has them

If you can get the grates bead/sand blasted you can get the rust and flakes off and re-season as you would CI cookware.
