Age Old Lid Vs Grate Temp Discussion

Something happened this morning I find very strange.

Started out with the Minon method, temps on my Maverick (hook to the underneath of the top grate) and lid were consistent. Started shutting vents down at 200. Got up to 235, both temps were dead on. Meat was at 135.

Then, the Maverick temps started dropping, got all the way down to 200. Lid temp was rising, got up to 248. Really wasn't worried, just took the average, and figured 225, and just left her alone.

Right now, after two and a half hours into the smoke, Maverick still at 204, lid at 230, meat at 148.

Not really concerned, just thought it strange, both temps were dead on up to 235, then such a drastic change in both.

Also, wife won't wake up, so I need someone to talk to!!!
 
Well, I figured out what was going on, and boy do I feel silly!

Took the lid off, to pull my fatty, and noticed the probe from the Maverick had slipped out of it's holder on the grate, and had fallen into the water pan! No wonder it was only registering 200!

Fixed it, and both lid and Maverick are at 230, right where I wanted.

Never mind!
