Charcoal taste

Welcome back Jamie!

Some folks say they get a bad taste when using regular Kingsford briquettes, so I wonder if you've ever experienced the same.

Personally I can't taste the difference between food grilled over Kingsford, Stubbs, Royal Oak, etc. or even lump. Can you?

Thanks for your time, and good luck with your latest book!

Thanks, Bob -- You bring up a really good question. You can get an unpleasant taste for almost amy kind of wood-based fuel. If the briquettes or chunks or even logs are damp, or if they not getting enough airflow, they will burn at temperatures that are too low. That's one reason people taste that nasty, acrid flavor on the food. If the fuel is dry and natural and you have enough air for proper combustion, the taste should be good --- with that soft woodsy aroma of the great outdoors.
