Bacon Wrapped Dates

Ingredients:
1 package dried dates
1 lb thin sliced bacon (cut slices into thirds)
1/2 cup brown sugar
¼ tsp cayenne pepper or to taste
Dizzy Pig Dizzy dust or your favorite rub

Preparation:

Mix brown sugar and cayenne pepper in bowl

Cut dried dates in half lengthwise

Coat dates with brown sugar mixture

Wrap each date in 1/3 piece of bacon

Place on backing sheet

Sprinkle with rub

Bake at 350 until bacon gets crispy.

Can be prepared hours ahead and cooked when your guest arrive.
 
We served these a couple times over Christmas and they were a huge hit. The combination of sweet, salty and savory works well together.

Next time I’m going to cook them on the smoker, I’m sure that will add another level to the flavors.

Yes, bacon wrapped dates are very tasty. I have never put any additional seasoning on mine, seems like the salt in the bacon and the sweet in the date gave my taste buds all they needed. You do have me thinking though.

We made some with and without and most everyone prefreed the ones sprinkled with Dizzy Dust.
