Iowa > Des Moines: Woody's Smoke Shack

I was in Des Moines last week and for lunch Friday we went to Woody's Smoke Shack for some barbecue. We split a half-rack of back ribs and a 3-meat/2-side platter for $28 (including soft drinks) and it was pretty good food. The ribs were firm but still moist and flavorful and the sliced brisket was my favorite part of the platter. The pulled pork was also good but the pulled chicken didn't have quite enough smoke for me, although it was fine otherwise. My wife thought the macaroni and cheese was too creamy but it had good cheese flavor and I liked the baked beans as well. Woody's is a small place and the 4 tables are very close together so I decided to not take any photos; there's an outdoor patio that would've been better but the weather was crummy so we stayed inside.

On Saturday I noticed a couple of smokers and a sign reading "Kenny's Rib Wagon" out in front of the Plaza Pub on Douglas Avenue, but due to time constraints I wasn't able to stop.
