Grind chicken w/bones? Why?

Looking at reviews for meat grinders and I see several references to grinding chicken with bones. Why would you do that?

While we are here, any recommendations for a good hand grinder? No more than 10#s or so at a time and mostly 2-3 #s at a time.

Only reason I can think of for grinding chicken bones is for feed or a raw meat diet for a dog.

That would be a bad idea unless you puree the meat. Chicken bones splinter which is why you should not feed them to a dog and I think even coarsely grinding them will still leave bone shards.

You should see the prices of raw chicken or duck (with bone) dog food!
I have even tried this myself to save money to feed three giant poodles... If the bones are not cooked, they don't splinter and it is great to have mixed with the raw meat.
I have a friend who buys 40 lb boxes of raw turkey necks to use as dog food.
