i have an older Nesco 600 watt( i think) snackmaster and it's great. it can do a full 4 trays of 1/4" beef slices in about 4 hours.

edit..nope mine is 500 watts. i have this one

my new oven is equipped with a dehydrator... butt it's so new, i haven't figured out how to use everything it does.
butt when i do, i'd like to try it out with a jerky recipe.

I dug my cheapie dehydrator out last year to dry some mushrooms (Baby Bellas)

I then used my spice grinder (old coffee grinder) to grind up some for my beef rubs:

I also use the ground mushrooms in soups, and other dishes.
The cheap model suits my simple needs.

check out this.

seems like the excalibur is a commonly suggested unit. I haven't compared the specs but it seems like it has more capacity and may be cheaper than the pro model you list.

I use the L'EQUIP it's awesome! Worth the money, I also have the Nesco and like the L'EQUIP much better esp.if your going to be doing alot of Jerky. JMO

We have an older Snackmaster (back when the motor, fan, and heating element were in the base) that we've used for years, and it works great for herbs, dried fruit, jerky, etc. Some of the really cheap "as seen on tv" types don't have a fan or adjustable thermostat, and I would not recommend one of those.
