I found a water pan that fits!

When I tried my first all-day smoke (see http://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?493...der-on-a-wsm-mini-build-This-is-what-happened), the frail pie pan I had been using as my drip pan/water pan tipped over and spilled over half my lit charcoal. This could have ruined my whole cook as I had to leave for work right away. I decided to look for a better solution. Here’s what I found at my local Ranch 99 store in Gardena (Artesia Blvd. near Normandie):

Best of all, it fits PERFECTLY at the bottom of my Smokey Joe Mini build pot! http://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?48961-My-EZ-WSM-Poor-Man-s-Benz-Build And the lower grill still sets at the right spot.

And, it’s stainless steel!

AND, it cost only $2.58.

I will have to test it out, but I’m sure it’s going to work much better than the cake pan/pie pan thing I’ve been using. And I bet it won’t flip over when I fill it with water!

George,
The deep pan just sits on the bottom of my tamale pot, where there is a 3 point star cut out. It just replaces the tin pie pan I had been using before.

Chang, I would try a few smokes without using the water pan at all. I think you will see your fuel lasting quite a bit longer than when you use the water pan. 10+ hours (@250-265) are the norm on a dingle load of fuel on my mini without using any heat sink. Try it, I think you'll be happy you did.
