Food Sealer: Rec's...

Hi.

Can see in forum there is a discussion about Food Sealers with "Food Saver" really only brand discussed...

However, I found this Rival and it is at a price point I can live with:

http://www.amazon.com/Rival-Pr...-6#productPromotions

And our/Chris's site defaults to this (pretty expensive):

http://www.amazon.com/Advanced...id=1237138612&sr=1-1

I'm strictly a home user, not going to do anymore freezing than for family but hate wasting money; is one that much better than other...?

Thanks in advance for ideas...

The Rival Seal A Meal vacuum sealers are a good value. I've been using one for over a year now.

There are some drawback to these units:
1. they don't have a seal button, the unit only seals the bag after a full Vacuum is obtained. Meaning you cannot seal bread without crushing it in the bag, or if you're doing some liquids it would be nice to start the seal before the liquid got to the sealing strip.

2. The units have small weak motors and if doing more than about 2 or 3 bags at a time you'll have to take some breaks so the units can cool down to properly seal. For me I've noticed that after 2 bags the unit just doesn't vacuum enough to get to the sealing phase.

ken, i got the ziplock at an acme near me in nj.

i always feel like a looney tunes character when i use acme products...

Went with the Reynold's Handi Vac; price for unit and bags was about $2 more than Zip Loc hand pump (unit plus bunch of bags) and my wife will be using this thing too...

Btw - mgr at Acme (!) said she has a Foodsaver, hubby fisherman and, you got it, uses the Handi Vac way more than Foodsaver. Endorsed it wholeheartedly and said if I had a problem to bring it back...

Will update later.
