I don't have the smokey joe silver, but I was wondering about the tuna can that's used as the ash buffer. Have you guys ever thought about doing a secondary can (with both sides cut open) placed over the charcoal grate to allow even more airflow?
Interesting idea but I don't think I want any incoming air flowing over the coals. Besides, a can in the middle will also reduce the amount of coals you can load.
I fabricated a charcoal basket out of expanded steel and that made it way better for me. I also have a Sj gold so air flow was an issue but not anymore. They are simple to make.
