BBQ Beginnings

Hi Dave!

I didn't realize your first restaurant was opened in Hayward, WI. Beautiful area up there. Would you talk a little about your beginnings in BBQ and how that lead to you being in the restaurant business?

Also, what do you consider your signature or go to meal for family BBQ's?

John both my parents are Native American with my dad being from the Oklahoma and that's where the passion for southern food and barbecue comes from. My mom was from the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation near Hayward Wisconsin. I used to help my mom cook Indian Fry Bread at Indian Pow-wows and that's were I learned how to cook... truly a story about humble beginnings. Because of my dad I've been eating BBQ all my life. My signature meal that I got started with was basically my All American BBQ Feast served on a garbage can lid. My first smoker was a garbage can. So my backyard parties always had ribs, bbq chicken, beans, coleslaw, fresh sweet corn and honey buttered cornbread. "Famous"
