Charcoal shaker mod

I was thinking about how to shake the ash from my charcoal grate and came up with this free mod with junk I had laying around.And it works.

Naw just move it in and out. I use lump so there's not a whole lot of ash but it does shake it down into the pan. Hell I guess I have to much free time on my hands at work. Beats shakin the whole smoker.
 
I use lump also. I have double grates (added the grate from an 18-1/2 kettle) on the bottom so the small lump pieces don't fall thru. It may work with both?

Maybe its just me but this seems like overkill. All I do is give a little kick to one or two of the legs and it knocks the ash right off.
