2-3 large brocoli heads washed and chopped fine
1 med. red onion, chopped fine
1 10oz stick of cheddar cheese, shredded
1 to 2 oz real bacon bits

chop brocoli and red onion together, add cheddar cheese and bacon bits (mix and set aside)

1/2 cup salad dressing (not mayo)
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
1 tbsp sugar

combine above mixture and pour over brocoli

add more salad dressing to get the desired consistency. the longer it sits, the better it tastes! it's a real crowd pleaser.

By salad dressing (not mayo), I assume you mean Miracle Whip.

The Picadilly Cafeteria chain features a similar salad that's very good-- theirs includes what I would estimate to be a cup of raisins in addition to the above recipe. I would guess their sweetness would make the sugar unnecessary.

A bit different version"

2 broccoli heads, cut to florets
1 red onion, sliced
1 yellow pepper, sliced
1 red pepper, sliced
1/4 cup chopped nuts or sesame seeds
salt & pepper to taste

1/2 cup oil & vinegar based dressing (sweet and sour or savory types work equally well).

Combine all ingredients in bowl. Toss with dressing. If you let it sit a bit, it gets more flavorful.

That's why these sites are great. I never thought of tossing in raisins or sesame seeds, but I will next time.

The cream base is Miracle Whip, or a store brand.
