I have recently fixed up a 26" Bar-B-Q kettle and have used it on three occasions. I am trying to get a feel for how much charcoal to use to maintain 350 to 400F for 2 hours. Also, what damper settings to apply to the three daisy wheels. I have used 1 full chimney of Kingsford briquettes and have struggled to maintain 350F for more than 30 min. starting with dampers between 1/3 and 1/2 open. Any help out there from fellow 26" kettle owners with more experience?

i don't own one. but i understand that they are fuel hogs. i got alot of spare fuel so just send yer kettle to me

question, why do you want the temp soo high ?

Andrew,

Try using lump. It seams to burn hotter.

Dump a full lit chimney on top of a pile of unlit lump. Keep your intake vents open a little longer.

Post a photo of that bad boy!

It'll use about 50% more charcoal then the 22 inch kettle.

As for vents, the rule of thumb is to kepp the one facing the wind closed and control the heat with the other 2.
