Smoking in Cold Weather?

I do 90% of my smoking Nov-May and have had trouble before keeping the temps up on my 18" WSM, but this was in the open.

This year I put up some plywood around the porch 4" high, and put the grill guards down on the porch so I have a wind block 4' high, a roof but the rest is open for good ventilation,

Should this work ok as temps get down around 25, if I am doing a 250 cook?

Would the 22" do a better job?

Would one of the automatic control units help?

Thanks for any info

Should work fine. I've used my 18 when temps below zero and have no problems maintaining temp. I don't use water in the pan - just aluminum foil. Keep her out of the wind.

(remember, do not open COLD bottled beer outside when the temps are below zero)

IIRC the Little Chief smoker said to keep the box and use it as insulation for there smokers.

I have done the same thing in building a wind break on my covered patio, helps the WSM and me too
