$10 CL SJS, lid rust.

I pulled the trigger on this SJS because it was very clearly hardly ever used. I can also use the extra grate on a mini smoker build. It's an '05, so definitely inside Weber's 10 year on rust.

As it shows in the pics, there is discoloration around the lid welds and just the smallest bit on the leg. It is PLENTY strong, I can always dremel and paint, but what's the chances Weber can do better? Does it have to rust through completely before they'll replace?

I'll also be doing my own "which is better: Gold or Silver" test today around lunch time. Burgers and dogs are again on the menu.

That rust around your handle lid welds almost just look like very light rust staining from a small bare metal spot where the paint was too thin in that area. Ive seen brand new kettles where they didnt do a good job spraying them where the handle meets the kettle lid. I'll bet if you take some "0000" steel wool and rub around that area, it will come near 100% clean. Try it on the leg too
