Pork Butt

I plan on doing a pork butt this weekend and was wondering how much cooked meat a 7-8 lb butt would yield. Seems like it would be a lot and that maybe I should cut it in half and freeze half for a later smoke. Also, which receipe do you guys recommend? Thanks

Figure about a 50% yield after you take into account trimming before and after cooking, plus shrinkage. I like The Renowned Mr. Brown recipe featured on the website in the Let's Cook section.

Hey Joe!!

Chris is right..50% shrinkage. You will get about 4 sandwiches per pound. Also, cook the whole thing and freeze the cooked stuff! It freezes well.

Thanks guys. I have the whole thing on right now. Just tryin to get my temps down. Did something dumb. I lit it off using the conventional method and added hot water instead of cool to the pan. Brain was'nt in gear I guess.
