Drying Chili Peppers?

How can I dry Chili Peppers? I have a bag each of Pasilla,New Mexico andGuajillo. They are already partilly dry but I want to dry them more to grind them into powder. My oven only goes down to 170 degrees and I don't have a dehydrator. Do you think 170 degrees is too hot?

Dave, Were they sold as "dried" ? If so, the moisture level should be fairly low. You could toast them a bit in a cast iron skillet on low or go ahead and place them in the preheated oven and let them hang (with the oven now off) for a few hours and reevaluate. If you decide they are still too pliable, repeat.

I just toast them in a very hot dry pan, pressing them down briefly with a spatula, then flipping and repeating. A few can be done at one time in less than a minute. Move the chilies to the counter to cool and they will continue to dry more. Grind.
