New Performer Lid Problems....

Well I got my Performer this past Saturday to add to my big Memorial day cookout. When I put it together that saturday night I noticed the lid didn't fit well. I put it on my countertop inside which I know is definatly flat and the lid rocked back and forth. I'd say it was about a 1/4'' gap between the lid and the countertop on the bad sides. I called Weber that night and they said they would ship me out a replacement (great customer service). In the mean time I had already planned on using the performer and she said I could so I did. In order to get cooking temps down a little I had to try and straighten the lid which worked perfect other han the fact that it messed up the coating near the edges. Well today I get the new lid and it has the exact same problem only not as bad but still not what i'd expect. It also seems as if the diameter of the two lids are larger than the base. With the lid on I can slide it back and forth and side to side atleast 3/4''. Nothing like the fit on my WSM. If I push the lid to one direction and look into the top vents I can actually seem daylight around the opposite edge. Am I being to picky? Does anyone have any ideas before I call back CS again? Thanks

I have a 22.5 OTG, and the lid fits like a glove. I would call CS again, and I wouldn't feel guilty about complaining. After all you paid good money for a first class grill, so I would give Weber another chance to give you what you paid for. Honestly, their CS is awesome, so give them a call.

ditto, yeah something is definately wrong. Mine fits very snug and when it is sitting on the kettle i cant move it back and forth or side to side.

Call them back. My lid fits nice and snug. I set my lid down on the patio and it's as flat as can be. Good Luck!

Long time reader of TVWB, first time poster....

I got my Performer about 18 months ago to replace my OTG. I immediately noticed that the lid slid around and was not airtight. Tried my old OTG lid and it fit the Performer perfectly.

I called Weber customer service and they sent out another lid. Unfortunately, the second lid was no better than the first. So I decided that the crud that builds up normally during cooking must be what makes the lids airtight.

But it is 18 months later and the lid is still not airtight. I know it sounds cheap but I want to be able to close the vents and shut down the coals. If nothing else, it lets me cover my grill within a couple hours of using it.

I would be interested if the original poster got a new lid from Weber and if it worked better. Guess I will give them a call and explain my situation.

The lid should sit snug. As the lid rockson a flat surface it does indicate that the lid is the problem again.
Call Weber CS and explain that this lid also is not snug fitting and ask them if they can send a specialist out to check it out and resolve the problem. I know how well this situation would be handled in Australia and am interested to see how quickly and how they will resolve your problem.
It may be that they have a packaging/storage problem or maybe a manufacturing problem. Though if it is a manufacturing problem it is likely that it would be picked up during the QA process.

Regards

What Phil says. Lid fits snug, period. If not - it's wrong. Should fit just as snug as your WSM.
