Question about grilling burgers on the SJS

How do you build the fire for optimum burger cooking on the SJS? Two zone fire or just coals on one side, no coals on the other? How much charcoal is ideal?

Do you leave the lid off? Seems like if I cook with the lid on, the temp isn't hot enough.

although i havn't cooked many burgers on an sjs i thnk i would have a bit more than one layer of coals covering the whole grate. but then again, i've seen burgers cooked on a ga that had only half the grate coverd so they could be cooked indirect with the lid on. so maybe you can try differant ways, take some pics and let us know.

Depending on the number of burgers, I would suggest a two zone fire. Always good to have a cool zone to use during flare ups.

I have always used a single layer of charcoal that heats 2/3 of the cooking grate, which leaves a small cool zone. These grills are very efficient with the heat so they don't need much charcoal.
