Anyone tried stacking 2 charcoal rings?

Hi, Weber is sending me a replacement charcoal ring because the finish has come off mine. So, I started thinking, if I stacked 2 charcoal rings could I get 20+ hours out of lump?

Anyone ever tried stacking 2 rings? I searched this forum and saw that Ken Keating (hope I remember his name correctly) built a ring extension, but I couldn't access his pictures.

as long as it doesn't interfere with the water pan you can do that. i mound my lump until it's so high it touches the water pan and then light a few coals to get her going. i don't use water in the pan though since i have a BBQ guru.
