yesterday the probe wire for my guru broke. I was able to splice it together and the temps on it are accurate, but the splice is vey close to the probe. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I could wrap and insulate so I could have it at rack level in the smoker. any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks,
Glon

Just off the top of my head I would recommend covering the exposed wires with GE's High-Temp RTV (silcon caulking and insulating material)and then wrapping the splice with metal tape which is good up to 400 F. However, the cost of the tape and RTV maybe half of what a new probe would cost you.

You may also want to check with an appliance repair shop to see what they can come up with.

I had a similar problem. I used high temp shrink wrap around the probe wire. This worked well for a couple of months.
All the probes from Guru now are the high temp stainless.

thanks I was just looking for a quick fix until I order a new one for now I just put the probe in the lid and adjust the temps as necassary
Thanks
