Delicious grilled asparagus

I finally have a contribution to the forums!

Had these at a local restaurant, figured out how they were made, and confirmed it with a waiter.

1) Get your grill heating up so that the surface will be hot.

2) Break off the tough ends of the asparagus with your fingers and toss.

3) Blanch the asparagus by dropping in boiling water for 2 minutes (or 3 if you find these not cooked enough to your liking).

4) Roll them in olive oil with salt and pepper.

5) Turn off the fire on your grill (if gas) and spread the asparagus on the grill. Roll them around with a spatula until they've got a nice smattering of blackened spots on them.

6) Take them off and serve.

Yummy!

Hmmm... yes. My wife doesn't like garlic, so I leave it off.

However, she fully supports my smoking, and that counts for a lot, doesn't it?

I don't bother blanching them; just put em on the grill until nicely charred. This also work better if they are not "tree trunk" size.

That's what I do, never have blanched anything if I'm grilling it. I do blanch and shock if I'm presenting a cold platter of vegetables either marinaded, or with an accompanying sauce. Grilled vegetables I serve at room temp, but you can also do a basic oil/vinegar marinade at room temp as well.
