Putting the finishing touches on my Weber Genesis Coffee Roaster. It's my old Frankengasser equipped with a 4 lb RK Drum and 50RPM motor setup.

I added a thermometer on the left side and plan to place another in the center of the lid.

So far I've roasted almost 16 pounds of coffee with only one small (1/2 lb) batch that burnt.
I'm only roasting 1 lb at a time until I get the hang of it. It takes about 15-17 minutes to roast and a few more to cool and de-chaff. I don't think I'll ever go back to corporate coffee beans! It's a dedicated bean roaster.

The setup looks great, Brian! I've been using an RK drum for three years in an old Sears gasser that I picked up as a return from a Sears parts center. I regularly roast three pounds in mine with great success, so don't worry about larger quantities. You will notice a large increase of smoke with the larger batch, but otherwise it will be the same. Cooling a batch that large is a bit more of a challenge, however. I have a cooling frame that I made from 1x3s and window screen that is 20x20 inches and I place it on top of an old window fan. It will cool three pounds in less than three minutes.

Have you visited the Green Coffee Buying Club yet (www.greencoffeebuyingclub.com)? We are a growing group of home roasters who buy coffee in bulk and then split it between the members who are interested in the particular coffee. We are buying some great coffee at cheap prices.

Thanks Ron! I'll check out the link, I just made my first Sweet Marias green bean purchase. My bucket cooler is almost too small for a one pound batch, so something like your cooler is in my future. I'm getting more confident to do larger batches, but don't want to get burnt out on one blend at a time.
