Rub for wimps

I have a friend of my wife's coming over for ribs on Saturday. She cannot tolerate any heat taste and does not like the taste of cumin. She's hoping for a sweet rub (which can have spice but not heat). Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated.

How 'bout:

1/4 c brown sugar
1/4 c ground Ancho chile powder
1/4 c paprika
1 Tbl onion powder
1 Tbl dried thyme
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp dried marjoram
1 tsp celery seed
½ tsp ground allspice
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp ginger

Ancho has no heat. If you don't have it available, double the paprika.

[Salt the meat first--use what you would if the ribs were just served to you cooked but unsalted. Let it sit while you mix the rub--several minutes--then apply the rub.]

Thanks, Kevin--that looks perfect. I looked for ancho chili podwer at 5 stores a couple days ago for a different recipe before I found it. I'll let you know how we (and she) liked it.

Jake's Boss Barbecue Rub from the "Sauces, Rubs, and Marinades by Steven Raichlen

1 1/4 cups (packed) dark brown sugar
1/4 cup coarse salt
1/2 cup paprika
3 T dried parsley
2 T dried basil
2 T dried oregano
2 T dried thyme
2 T dried onion flakes
1 1/2 T dried Worcestershire (optional)
1 1/2 T lemon pepper
1 T garlic powder
1 T MSG (optional)
1 t ground allspice
1 t ground cinnamon

Combine all ingredients and rub away!
I use this rub for the wimps in my family and it works really well.
