Which would you perfer - SJP or 18.5 modified???

I've been wanting a portable charcoal grill for a while and have been going back and forth. I finally found a SJP on craigslist that I have to call on for price tomorrow but wanted to see what you guys advise. Should I go with the SJP or should I get a cheap 18.5 kettle and shorten the legs?

Also, whats a good price to expect to pay for a decent used SJP?

never really understood why folks would cut the legs down on an 18.5" kettle? Why not just take of the legs off to transport and assemble it like normal when ready to cook? I would prefer this option as opposed to bending over to cook.
 
If you are looking for a Smokey Joe Platinum (Jumbo Joe), call every Ace Hardware store that you can locate. They were the last company to buy them in mass quantity.
