Romertopf Clay Pot Cooker

While going thru my cooking stuff in the basement (read: "hardly ever used"), I came across this clay pot with lid, Model 111. It was a gift, but I have no idea how long ago....I vaguely recall using it once or twice, and thinking "This thing is a pain...pre-soaking it, lining with parchment, starting with a cold oven," etc etc

So....are there any ideas out there for using this on my WSM ? Seems like it's designed for "low and slow", but maybe NOT in a smoker. I'm thinking, maybe beans ? Tough meat cuts ?

Also, I'd like to hear any non-WSM favorites, too...like oven use ?

I figure....if ANYONE has some good ideas, it'll be the pro's here

It is designed for low and slow in the oven. My mother has used her for pot roasts etc, stews chili would be good too I am sure.

Not sure why you you could not use it on the WSM for the same purpose.

Mu mom had one and used it to cook cornish game hens. It was a long time ago but I recall they always came out nice and juicy.

Thanks much for the feedback, guys....although the common thread of "My Mom used one...." makes me feel kinda....well....OLD

I'm sure I still have the booklet with recipes that came with it somewhere....otherwise, "Google is your friend"

It's either "experiment", or go out in the next yard sale !
