Replacement probes

Is there a place that you can get replacement probes for a stoker or is Rocks the only place. I have no problem with Rocks just wondering.

Rock's is the only place, as far as I know. The Stoker probes are different from probes used with remote thermometers - they have some circuitry inside the plug.

All the Stoker probes are type K thermocouples, so if you are sufficiently handy, you could replace a failed or damaged probe with another type K thermocouple.

If the problem is in the plug (where the smarts are) you are better off buying another from Rock's.

A type K thermocouple is a standard item. But I notice on the Stoker site that the plug does not appear to be a standard 2-pin plug.

Does someone know how these probes differ from standard thermocouples?

I'm seriously considering buying a Stoker but one of my hesitancies is that the probes appear to be proprietary. Ideally I'd like to know I could replace them with standard thermocouples (this would also allow flexibility in terms of using other types of probes (e.g. beaded).

If someone has detail on this I'd be very appreciative.

Thanks,
Matt

The communication between the probe and stoker is digital (1-wire). A processor measures the temp and sends out the values over that bus.

So even if you found the thermocouple, it would be way too much work to try to recreate the whole thing.

What the above allows is that all the probes can be on the same wire making it very easy to add as many probes as you like, using simple stereo audio cables.

Adding on to my post, the 1-wire bus is very common in many equipment. Maxim makes the silicon so I am sure you could fashion your own probes if you really wanted to. There is no propriatary logic from Stoker in their design.

Here is more info on 1-wire bus: http://www.maxim-ic.com/products/1-wire/

Matt,

While you are researching which ATC system to purchase (Stoker or CyberQII) you are going to want to check out this thread:

http://tvwbb.infopop.cc/eve/fo...0072103/m/2780050295

Also, the best documentation I've seen on the CyberQII can be found on the guru forum here:

BobT just posted the software manual today:

If you have any questions on either device let us know. we've kicked the subject around quite a bit as you can see by the first thread I posted.
