Smoker Box

I just got the Summit 450 and was hoping to do some indirect cooking using the smoker box this weekend. Will the smoker box provide enough heat for the cooking, or should I have another of the burners on low? My guess would be that for ribs the smoker is enough, but for chickens I may need another burner on. Thanks.

Generally you will need the #4 burner on as well for ribs.
Try #4 on a tad under medium and check the lid temp after 10 minutes.

Tad = a bit more than a little bit

If you are "INDIRECT COOKING" you should be using both the #1 and the #4 burners on medium. This should give you a temp of about 300-400 deg. If you're just wanting to smoke something you may be able to just use the #4 burner and run temps anywhere from 125-250 deg.

Last year I did two 8lb boneless pork rib roasts with the Summit 450 with the smoker. They were done in about 2 1/2hrs with the #1 and #4 burners on med. Make sure you pre-heat the grill with all burners on high for about 10 minutes or untill you start to see smoke from the smoker.
