First Fire Test and Heat Clean, season?

So I just built my first mini with a silver. I cut out the entire bottom except for an inch of rim of the tamale pot and landed expanded metal on that. Then I cut the handle off of a cast-iron lodge skillet and landed that on the expanded metal. With a charcoal basket 3 inches tall made of expanded metal I reached a temperature of 500°F for 1.5 hours with the vents wide open, kingsford, and some cherry chunks. I was hoping to sort of bake it clean of metal impurities and maybe season the grill some. Food would come on the next fire. Any thoughts on that?
