Just a quick question for the ATMEGA gurus. I understand the design of the LCD to use the 595 to utilize less pins on the controller, but has anyone thought of using an I2C display or at least an I2C adapter board for conversion to serial? Seems a bit more efficient, plus it would free up a couple more pins for other awesome options?
