Weber Warranty and Mods

At a recent (UK) Weber Grill Acadmy day, the topic of temperature gauges in Weber Kettles came up and I stated that I had fitted a Weber thermometer into the lid of my (now 10 years old) Kettle, as it was not fitted as standard.

The Weber cook hosting the event advised that I had invalidated my lifetime warranty by drilling the lid and doing this.

Are other forum members/contributors aware of this given that a section of this forum is dedicated to mods made to WSMs, Kettles etc, or was it 'scare-tactics' by the Weber cook ?

Thoughts/comments welcome.

Regards

Malcolm

That's true of almost any manufactured product, imho. Once you modify something, very few manufacturers will warranty that part or item.
You have to ask yourself if you are willing to accept that.

Weber should still warrant the temperature gauge.

I can't speak to UK warranty, but US warranty for Weber kettles is as follows, per Weber.com.

One Touch Cleaning System: 5 years no rust through/burn through
Bowl, Lid, and Center Ring: 10 years no rust through/burn through
Plastic Components: 5 years, excludes fading or discoloration
All remaining parts: 2 years

One should expect that once you drill a hole or make some substantive change to an original part, the warranty will be voided.
