It's neat, but it's not able to actually control anything, which is the main point of the HeaterMeter.
 
That is true, but most guys on the pellet forums just wants something to monitor temps wirelessly. As discussed before here on this forum it would be great to figure out how to control a pellet grill using the Heatermeter. There is a manufacture that just rolled out a wireless controller for their pellet grills but you will have to use their free (for now) server. I am planning on going that route and just use the HM to monitor the 4 meat probes.
 
I have a pellet grill with a wifi controller and i'm still learning. I also use the heatermeter to monitor temps and have built a handful of them. As i don't use the servo/fan i don't need 12v so i power the HM either from a 5v USB battery bank and get around 7-8 hours or a USB phone charger if i'm doing longer cooks. I have looked at the project and it's a homebrew maverick wireless probe but with the bonus of web reporting and email alerts.
