Weber Performer style charcoal starter?

Hi all. Nice place you have here!! My wife and I will be purchasing a Weber Smokey Mountain the near future. I have a Weber Performer which is 10+ years old and still works wonderfully. There is a little corrosion in the bottom of the bowl, but I will take blame for not maintaining it better.

Anyhow, one of the features I like about the performer is the propane starter. Does anyone offer this type of starter for the WSM?

Thanks,

Dan

You'll find that isn't neccessary with a Wsm. You want lit coals on top. Not a full light from the bottom. You'll love your smokey mountain when you get it.

I just use a flame thrower:

That and other tips / mods in my Mod's Thread.

Like John said above you don't want to light all of the charcoal on the WSM. You will find that the minion method of starting just a few coals and placing them on top of unlit coals works best.

Ditto what Derrick said. Use the performer to start your coals. The work space on the performer is handy to when using the smoker.
