Rain cover on the cheap for BBQ and WSMs

I have been trying to decide how to create a rain cover that would be easy to setup, therefore the popup canopy was out, but a regular or golf umbrella was also out.

I went to Ace Hardware and bought a 2 inch PCV pipe for $7.00 and cut it in half. I already had a patio umbrella for my table and decided that the BBQ area was more important than staying dry when eating... actually I found my missing canopy, my oldest son had it at his apartment and I demanded it back!

I dug a hole close to 18 inches deep and then packed around the pipe with some rocks and dirt. The umbrella slips right in and can be moved to the other smoker depending on which I am using. If I find I am using both at the same time in the rain I may look into a used umbrella.
It is not perfect but it certainly fills the bill!

Yeah, we rarely put up the deck table umbrella. So when I BBQ and it is bright and HOT out or if it looks like rain, I started setting it up over the smoker. I was just using the base, but wind started making that weak, so I went to HD and got two pipe mounting brackets and attached them to the rail of my deck. Worked good, until wind tried grabbing it. Bought two 3' bungie cords and now it is stable even if breezy...
