After finding this site and seeing another's Genesis 3000 restore I was inspired to rehab/restore my own. The grill was originally my Dad's bought in the early 90's as well as I remember. Upon contacting Weber customer service with my serial number they were unable to verify the actual model year but located on the label clearly is what appeared to be a year identifier embedded in some ID numbers. It said "1991" by itself. I assume the grill is a 1991 Weber Genesis 3000.
While the grill overall was in fairly good shape it did have some issues. Unfortunately I lost a front trim piece to rust and the part is no longer available. To the best of my knowledge the burners and crossover ignition were original and they still worked. After pressure washing and tearing it down I found every screw basically welded into the firebox. Working around what I could and drilling out what I was forced to I began the process of restoring using the advice provided by others here who inspired me to rehab this grill.
It's been sanded, painted and replaced from the burners up. I upgraded to stainless flavor bars and cooking grates. While I had bought some durawood shelving for the prep surfaces back in the mid 2000's from Weber, I still had the original wood surfaces and decided I loved that original look. I used red oak wood and Rustoleum Ultimate Spar Varnish to recreate a more original look. I'm waiting on a few minor parts but it's basically 98% complete. I am very happy with the results and it's working like new. I must add this forum is a great inspiration and resource.
