If you get blade guards/sleeves, you could just roll them up in a towel.

A knife roll would be a good step up. Something like this $20 Henckels Knife Roll folds to 20" long and would seem to work for your long slicer - http://www.amazon.com/Henckels...p/B00004RFMJ/tvwb-20

Blade sleeves are nice, but a simple wrap in a towel held together with rubber band works too. Just make sure when you roll them the knives don't touch one another.

My Forshner's came in plastic sleeves. The knives that don't get used a lot I put them back in the plastic and in a drawer. The sleeves seem to be fairly durable.

I would recommend going to a restaurant supply store, you should find blade guards that will fit.Myself, being a meatcutter at the end of each workday i sandwich them between styrofoam meat trays and use the meat film, like saran wrap, to wrap it.The towel wrap would work fine-but blade guards as listed above would be the best choice.Richard
