I just started getting more interested in learning about smokers and basically all things BBQ. I have a little smokey joe and am keeping my eyes open on craigslist for a smokin' used smoker deal. I don't know how often they show up on there, but I'm patient.

Guy, Welcome from another Santa Rosan. Glad you found your way here. This place is great. Read all you can and don't wait for a WSM, get one now. Look for sales and if you can get on Amazon from this site, it helps support one of the best webs on the internet. You will never regret it. I may need another soon for a full comp cook. In the mean time use a kettle as your smoker, easy to set up and works really good.
Ask any questions here you will get some excellent help from the pros.

If you want, come by and see my set up, I probably have some stuff for you.

Mark

There you go , Sharing the love. Smiler ait it cool?
Welcome Guy.
WSMs are like Hens teeth on CL. But they do show up from time to time. Like Mark says pick up a kettle for cheap and use that to start. I did it for years. If you go with a new one, for sure you want to go through the link from here.

Thanks for the friendly replies.

Mark, I sure would like to come by sometime and see how you do things. My budget is tight and I'm a bit frugal by nature, so I enjoy the hunt for a good deal.

Mac, thanks for the tips. I'm guessing hens don't have many teeth? Smiler

I recently had to put down my female German Shepherd dog of 16yrs. and 8 months, and I think I'm looking for a hobby I'd enjoy that can keep me busy when I'm not at work. I do like to cook.

Did I mention I brew beer? Big Grin

Sorry for your loss. We lost our beloved Irish Setter of 17+ years and could only go a few months until we filled that void.
Now we have two knuckle heads.
Nanuq (Nanook), and "his" dog Mocha.

Guy, I have an xtra chimney and tools and bricks, you can never have too many bricks. Send me an e mail, look up my profile, we can get together and I can try your brew, trade you for a meal. You can meet the Beagles, Rosie & Mick.

Mac,
Nice pics. 17+ years is a long time. I keep telling myself that I must have done something right to have enjoyed the companionship of my dog for as long as I did.
I read through the beer thread. Nice to see so many people into craft beer. Being a "beer geek" myself, I think I've had just about every beer mentioned in there, and then some. I know it doesn't have wide distribution, but I'm surprised none of the hopheads mentioned Pliny The Elder.

Mark, I'm shooting you an email.

Rooster, in addition to brewing it, I do sometimes taste the final product...Quality control 'ya know. Wink

Hello Guy, and welcome to the forum.
This is one hobby your partner will never crab about.
I've been enjoying the principle potable product of your region for decades.
We are currently enjoying the company of our male red heeler, Ignatz. Way too smart for a canine.
Thanks for the post.

God Bless The Cooks.
Amen.
