To Prospective Members:

Since 2005, TVWBB has required that members use some version of their real name on this discussion forum. Using real names keeps the discussion personal and friendly, and I believe it is one of the key reasons why we have avoided so much of the conflict and harsh tone that you see on other forums on the Internet.

During the registration process, please make sure to use a version of your real first/last name in the Display Name field in your profile. The field is clearly labeled:

Please understand that this is a requirement of registration. I personally review each registration and reject those that do not comply.

Also, note that with over 5,000 registered members, we have multiple Steve's, Bryan's, Jeff's, Tom's, etc. If you get an error message saying that the name you entered is already in use, please differentiate your Display Name by adding a nickname or a city name after your name. Minor name variations like Bryan S, Bryan S., and Bryan_S can lead to identify confusion between members.

So, if your name is John Smith and your nickname is Scooter and you live in Seattle, here are some examples of valid Display Names:

• John
  
• John (Scooter)
  
• John (Seattle)
  
• John Smith
  
• John Smith (Scooter)
  
• John Smith (Seattle)
  
• J. Smith
  
• J. Smith (Scooter)
  
• J. Smith (Seattle)
  
• John S.
  
• John S. (Scooter)
  
• John S. (Seattle)

and so on.

There is usually some combination of real name + nickname or city name that protects your privacy while also complying with this policy.

About the display name. Is there any way I can correct it? I had mistakenly missed the second n in my name. It should read Lynn K, not Lyn K.
